BOCA RATON, FL – February 12, 2018 – The City of Boca Raton is hosting a public outreach meeting for the Rutherford Park and Lake Wyman restoration project on February 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Downtown Library. The City is seeking public input on the renovation of the parks, which may include new motorized boat launch ramps, trailer parking, canoe and kayaking trails and renovated boardwalks. The City’s contractor, Applied Technology and Management (ATM) Inc., proposed initial designs and concepts at the January 22 City Council Workshop. Some of the proposed renovations to the park include the addition of boat ramps, which are currently only available at Silver Palm Park. The City is seeking input from the Boca Raton boating community and residents about all of the park enhancements and renovations. In addition to the proposed boat ramps, the project will rehabilitate and enhance the overall waterfront access including the canoe and kayak trails, a new boardwalk, trailer parking spaces, bathroom facilities, a bridge/culvert structure, floating docks, channel to intracoastal, channel markers, channel dredge volume and a boat wash-down area. As part of an initiative to activate City-owned waterfront park sites, the City is considering proposed concepts for the City parks that adjoin the Intracoastal Waterway in a Waterfront Master Plan. Several parks including Lake Wyman/Rutherford, Hillsboro El Rio, Red Reef Park and the Wildflower Property have been budgeted for renovation and are in the early stages of engineering and design. Additional waterfront parks may be prioritized in the future. The Boca Raton Downtown Library is located at 400 NW 2nd Avenue and residents are encouraged to attend and participate in this historic waterfront park renovation.
