Spanish River High School Students Learn About the Available Paths to a Successful Aviation Career BOCA RATON, FL – January 27, 2016 – On Friday, January 22, Boca Raton Airport Authority operations director Mark Cervasio visited 150 freshmen students at Spanish River High School. The presentation was informational and inspirational, with Cervasio teaching the students about the Airport and its role in the community, while highlighting the vast career opportunities available in the aviation field. Many students said they were motivated by the presentation, and were surprised to learn the number of careers in aviation beyond being a pilot or a flight attendant. “The presentation increased my student’s understanding of alternative paths to a career,” said Brett Burkey, DIL social studies at Spanish River High School and assistant director at the FAU Center for Economic Education. “So much emphasis is placed on the traditional route, which can be expensive and unfulfilling for some. Aviation is an example of an industry that offers rewarding careers to students more oriented to vocational training.” The BRAA continues to be an integral part of the local community, providing education outreach and opportunities for students throughout Palm Beach County. The BRAA is available to speak with other school students, through classroom presentations and onsite Airport tours.
