PROPEL AWARDED $27,000 AT GREAT CHARITY CHALLENGE IN WELLINGTON FUNDS TO ENERGIZE NEW LITERACY PROGRAMS – MOBILE LIBRARY, MOBILE TUTORS Boca Raton, Fla. – February 7, 2019 – PROPEL (People Reaching Out to Provide Education & Leadership) came in 13th place at the Great Charity Challenge in Wellington and was awarded $27,000, during an evening filled with camaraderie, equestrian competition and excitement. PROPEL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged youth from south Lantana to Boca Raton achieve academic success through leadership training, tutoring and life-skills programs. Located in east Boca Raton, PROPEL successfully works with more than 100 students through its after-school and weekend programs, focusing on literacy enhancement, SAT/ACT Prep, STEM programs, healthy living initiatives and post- secondary career planning. With the $27,000 gift from the Great Charity Challenge, PROPEL will invest in expanding its literacy programs to foster more interest in reading and increasing reading comprehension for its students, said CEO Gregg Francis. PROPEL plans to invest in a mobile library with remote instructional services. “Thank you to the organizers of the Great Charity Challenge and Fidelity Investments for making this event possible and for its tremendous support of area nonprofits,” Francis said. “This investment in area youth will allow PROPEL to share the joy of reading with those who cannot make it to our classrooms or who cannot make it to their local libraries. Bereft of functional literacy, our students' options and opportunities will be extremely limited.” Held on February 2, 2019 at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, the Great Charity Challenge, presented by Fidelity Investments® (GCC), is an excellent opportunity for the equestrian world to give back to the community. The GCC started in 2010, generating more than $400,000 for 24 local charities. Today, the event has grown to more than 50 local charities competing for more than $1.5 million each year. To date, the Great Charity Challenge has distributed $12.2 million to 230 Palm Beach County charities. An evening of fun, the GCC is a relay-style equestrian jumping competition with teams consisting of two junior/amateur riders combined with one Olympic or world-class rider. The 30 rider teams are randomly paired with 30 charities that serve Palm Beach County. Additional grants are drawn the night of the event, adding up to a grand total of 50 benefiting non-profits benefiting from the event. To learn more about GCC, visit https://gcc.coth.com/.
