Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County Partnered With Delray Beach Community Redevelopment and City of Delray Beach To Present "ROCK THE BLOCK"!

DELRAY BEACH, FL - (May 31, 2023) - For decades, Habitat for Humanity has set the stage for families, volunteers, donors, and supporters to build safe and affordable homes that provide the foundation for a better life.  Over 250 volunteers were gathered on April 29, 2023, for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County’s Rock the Block. This annual event revitalizes a community and unites hundreds of volunteers in a block-style hands-on volunteer experience that transformed 10 homes in one day.

Rock the Block was in partnership with the City of Delray Beach which identifies the eligible homes and makes contact with homeowners and the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), whose funding prepares the properties for beautification and addresses the exterior improvements that improve the aesthetics of the homes, ultimately increasing property value.

Rock the Block has been a City of Delray Beach tradition since 1989. In 2018, the event evolved into a new and exciting partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County. “The City remains enthusiastic in its participation efforts in such a long-standing initiative to stabilize communities,” said Ferline Mesidort, Neighborhood Services Administrator of the City of Delray Beach.

“Rock the Block creates a big impact on our residents and the neighborhood in one day by beautifying their homes.  This long-standing program has been a great success, and we intend to continue it for years to come,” said Renée Jadusingh, Executive Director of the Delray Beach CRA.

The funds raised from Rock the Block go directly back into the nonprofit’s Neighborhood Revitalization program, which addresses the need to preserve affordable housing and healthier living conditions through its critical repair and aging-in-place programs. The goal is to help homeowners stay in their existing homes, protect their financial investments, and improve their quality of life.

“We are so grateful to all of the volunteers and supporters of this year’s Rock the Block,” said Jennifer Thomason, CEO and President of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County.“Rock the Block gives Habitat the perfect opportunity to partner with the City of Delray Beach and the CRA to make a lasting impact in our community. The collaboration successfully supports our mission to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.”

Sponsors of the 2023 Rock the Block event included: Materials Sponsor - The Home Depot; Home Builder - Vertical Bridge, Wells Fargo; Community Builder - P&H Interiors; Hospitality and Lunch Sponsor – Christ Fellowship, Chick-fil-a; Refreshment Sponsor – J & US Management Group, Saint James Tea, Starbucks; Hope Builders – Brittany Kocaj, Dunay Miskel Backman LLP, Humana, and Sundy Village; Water Sponsor – Winn Dixie; Exclusive Radio Sponsor- X102.3.
