West Palm Beach, FL (October 18, 2017) – Oxbridge Academy announces that Ralph Maurer, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as the school’s Head of School, effective July 2018. Dr. Maurer will succeed John Klemme, who announced earlier this year that he has chosen to return to his former position as an English teacher at the school. Dr. Maurer will join Oxbridge as Head of School-Elect beginning January 2018 to become familiar with the school’s culture, faculty and student body, under Klemme’s leadership. Dr. Maurer’s appointment comes after a worldwide search led by Carney Sandoe & Associates, a highly regarded international academic leadership search firm, working closely with a Search Committee comprised of parents and faculty and the Oxbridge Board of Trustees. The six-month search attracted more than 100 inquiries from prospective candidates from around the world. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Maurer to the Oxbridge community and know that he is the right person to lead the school into its next phase of growth,” said Oxbridge Board of Trustees Chairman William Koch. “We are confident that his depth of experience and commitment to excellence in education will provide for many exceptional years to come with even more innovations and opportunities for our students.” Dr. Maurer joins Oxbridge after serving as the Headmaster of The International School Nido de Aguilas, an independent English-language international day school in Santiago, Chile. It has a 1,750-member student body encompassing Pre-K through 12th grades. During his tenure, Dr. Maurer led the school’s strategic planning process; strengthened the school’s project-based learning program; developed strong arts and athletic programs; created a professional development academy; and established the school’s first endowment fund. Prior to his time at Nido, Dr. Maurer was a faculty member and administrator in the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, where he was in charge of the entrepreneurship curriculum for the Freeman School, and one of Tulane’s primary public figures on the subject. Throughout his professional career in education, Dr. Maurer has been a visible leader both on campus and in the local, regional, and international communities, a role he plans to continue and grow in his new position at Oxbridge, enhancing the school’s strong community relations. Dr. Maurer will relocate to South Florida with his wife, Meg, and their son. She holds a doctorate in classical archeology. “I'm honored to have been chosen to lead Oxbridge Academy in this capacity,” Dr. Maurer said. “I look forward to working with the school’s leadership, the faculty and the students and their families as we identify new ways to enhance the already world class education Oxbridge offers. My first job will be to listen and learn and then to move forward together with exciting plans for the future.” Dr. Maurer, who was raised in Florida, earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in communications studies from Northwestern University, a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in management science and engineering from Stanford University.
